If you need to store lots of large files an external hard drive is your best choice. If you have music or video files that you are not concerned about backing up if you have the original CD or DVD you can use an external drive to store these files and you won't need to put them on the hard drive in your laptop. If your monitor has high enough resolution many tuners are compatible with high definition signals. To watch over the air signals you need an antenna. A few tuners have a built in antenna while others use an external desktop antenna about the size of beer or soda bottle. More powerful antennas are available. Your reception depends on the city you live in and how far you are from the station's antenna but if you live in a major city chances are you can watch over the air TV in your back yard or at a tailgate party. To watch cable and satellite signals you need a subscription to the service and the tuner needs to be connected to the cable or satellite cable.
